Master sword project

My six month project is the master sword from the legend of Zelda.

This is what I am going to make,

My experience so far is that you need the right wood and the right width of wood. At first my dad and I used 1/2 inch pressed board, but that didn't work. We needed about 3/4 inched of wood so we went to Rona and got some 1/4 inch hardboard and cut them into three separate boards to make 3/4 inch sword.

After we made those three boards my dad and I had to make 1/8 inch divots in the board. After we did that we glued the three boards together. After it dried, my brother josh and I drew the sword blade template and cut it.  

For the handle, what I have done so far is, I made two 2/4s about a foot long and put in divots in so that when I glued them together they would be able to go onto the pole that sticks out of the blade, so after that (I haven't done this yet) I will go to the princes and use there lath and make the handle.

Too make the rest of the sword I need to attach the handle to the blade, style it to the way I want it to be, make the mold and buy the supply's.
